Lovers was an underground queer bar that operated on a bi-weekly basis from November 2019-February 2020 in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood. It was designed in response to La Cañita, a radical and inclusive queer bar in Mexico City, and was continuing to grow and evolve when COVID-19 necessitated closure. The goal was to create a space in Chicago that allowed hosts to experiment with modes of service, natural wine and cocktail list curation, cocktail design, space curation/bar buildout design, small-scale nonconforming business models, and all the while prioritize and promote queer/LGBTQ patronage. Lovers is about meeting people, making space, trying our hands at something, and reinvisioning what a bar could look like.

Many thanks to cocktail bartender and co-host Michael Harrison.
