Variable Shade Structure

The Variable Shade Structure is made up of a series of elastic, angular tarps, tent poles and custom metal stakes, equipped with metal loops. It is assembled intuitively and responsively into an infinte variety of arrangments that allow the user to program space in a variety of ways. It turns the experience of errecting a tent, or shelter, into a creative exercise, not unlike that of building a fort, and thus, as a kit of parts, invites the user to engange creatively with their environment. It’s open-form structure also allows the tent to cater to a variety of activities, and is scalable to accomodate them.
