CUISINE BANALE

Cuisine Banale is a mobile kitchen composed of five interconnected modules built primarily from reclaimed materials collected through local recycling networks and previous artistic projects. Inspired by the Panamanian anti-waste recipe ‘terremoto con derrumbe’ and the medieval system of ‘banalités’, the project reimagines the kitchen as a contemporary commons: a place where materials, recipes, stories, and people come together through acts of cooking, sharing, repair, and transmission.
The mobile kitchen is composed of 5 modules:
1- Prep module
2- Fire module
3- Wash module
4- Compost module
5- Shade module
Cuisine Banale is an artistic project initiated and curated by d-o-t-s (Laura Drouet / Olivier Lacrouts), and developed collectively with Breanne Johnson, Eléonore Grignon, and Quentin Gaudry, with assistance from Sarah Hornung. As part of the project, a mobile kitchen was built during a three-week residency in Sanem (Luxembourg) from May 11 to 31, 2026, using primarily repurposed materials collected from the recycling center SIVEC, as well as leftovers from previous art installations. Produced by the Municipality of Sanem, the project was realised through close collaboration between the artistic team, several municipal departments, and a range of local partners.
