Cast aluminum, aluminum bar, steel, electrical components
The shelf installation commissioned by the Night Heron, a wine bar opening 2026 in Chicago, IL, functions as a room divider and “living” design intervention. Built to complement and separate a “living room” on the east end of the bar from the main bar space, the shelf is programed for various functions, including record storage, book and game storage, lighting, coat storage and miscellaneous bar storage. In conversation with the bar owner, Steven Lucy, it is designed to be a malleable and adaptive object, that changes and grows with the bar, as the bar accrues context and history. Touch points incorporated into the shelf designate it as two-sided, one side serving the bar staff and the other side the guests.
